Black Cobra– Imperium Simulacra
Genre: Sludge Metal, Doom Metal
FFO: High on Fire, Eyehategod
With four incredible full lengths under their belts, Sludge/Doom duo Black Cobra illustrate once more their mastery of the metallic craft.
Imperium Simulacra is nine savory, sensational, and sludge soaked songs that may cause severe neck injuries from the head banging that is guaranteed to ensue.
Death Index– Self Titled
Genre: Post Punk, Goth Rock, Hardcore Punk
FFO: Merchandise, Heat Dust, The Smiths
Deathwish Inc.’s Death Index is the new side project from Morrisey-worshiping Merchandise frontman Carson Cox and served as the most delightful musical surprise this week.
The project began as the brain child of Marco Rapisarda (Archaic, La Piovra) seeking a vocalist for his uniquely grim take on hardcore punk.
When combined with the forces of Cox, the project took an even more remarkable turn utilizing a baritone vocal style far removed from the signature Merchandise approach delving into elements of Goth Rock and Post Punk. Immediately add this two piece sensation to your list of bands to check out for an experimental release that will appease punk rockers searching for something different and new.
Entombed A.D.-Dead Dawn
Genre: Death Metal
FFO: Entombed, Obituary, Carnage
With 4/5s of the classic Entombed lineup at its disposal, Entombed A.D. is more Entombed than mid 2000s Entombed was Entombed.
It’s got the speed and intensity of Left Hand/Clandestine era brimming with melodic solo work, and the cutting groove of Wolverine Blues with heavy dosage of death n’ roll.
Your enjoyment of this album is largely dependent on your relationship with the previous Entombed incarnation’s catalogue.
For those unfamiliar with the group: it is solid Swedish Death Metal at it’s finest.
